Military question about captured German Waffen SS troops being escorted by British troops?
Here is a photo of British troops escorting German Waffen SS prisoners who were taken by British troops at Caen in July 1944.

The column of German’s on the right seem to have their hands over their heads as they march under guard.
The column of Germans on the left seem to keep their hands infront, raised in air, in fists.
I was just wondering if their might be a specific reason for this?
I’ve never seen a surrendered column march with fists up like that?

Your suggestion that it might depend on the unit that captures the prisoner makes a bit of sense… possible I suppose.

Your second link worked for me. That’s an interesting photo.
I’m guessing the prisoners on the left are newly captured and they just joined the column. It looks like they are just starting to put their hands on their heads, but the picture was taken before they finished.
